Sometimes your only option is change…

Like everyone else who has been working from home, I’ve been seeking inspiration and motivation to keep me going! And I’ve been finding that in lots of different places! Conversations with colleagues, our DTV Friday night drinks down the virtual pub, and from tapping into the wonderful sharing of expertise and experience from insightful and generous people across the sector.

Two examples have really stood out for me in the past little while, and they were both via the excellent Fundraising Online virtual event from the Resource Alliance.

I was hugely inspired by Ailbhe Smyth talking about the historic campaign which legalised abortion in Ireland.

Ailbhe was the Convenor of the coalition formed to repeal the 8th amendment under which abortion was illegal, and Co-director of the Together for Yes campaign.

She talks about the importance of focus, of five key messaging principles, and of the need to have proper conversations rather than just use slogans. I would highly recommend you watch her talk. Ailbhe is an incredible lady and led a campaign that has positively impacted the lives of all Irish women!

The second thing I wanted to recommend was on a topic that we are all giving some thought to at the moment -what could change in the world of fundraising as we move out of lockdown? What will happen to ‘business as usual’?

The talk is BAU has to change, from Ruth Wickes and Ben Littlejohn.

There’s some great stuff in here on human-centred design, and plenty to help you get a grip on ‘not being Nokia and being more Samsung or Apple’. The world is changing so quickly at the moment, and it was fascinating to get a better understanding of innovation which we will all, no doubt, need more of.

If you’ve seen any great virtual events you’d like to share with us, please let us know!

Bio

Tash is a Producer at DTV, joining in March 2020 during a global pandemic. Her intro to DTV was certainly a different one. She has been in the sector for sometime now both agency side and in-house at UNICEF. Tash can usually be found in local theatres and comedy venues and believes she was a llama in a past life, so loves any llama/alpaca content!
